Le Drapeau

I thought this was a pretty good picutre taken by Sara here. Its not every day that you get to see the huge French flag hanging from the top of the Arc de Triomph, just on holidays. This was taken the day after Bastille Day. As I've probably mentioned about ninety times, it was really hot while Sara was out here, and this was the day that we sought refuge from the sun inside one of the many movie theatres along the Champs Élysées. One might criticize for using one of our precious days together seeing a movie rather than seeing sights, but it was so hot outside and that theatre was so nice and cool that you really can't blame us. Besides, we saw The Da Vinci Code, which takes place mostly in Paris, so we are absolutely vindicated. It was a great show, I've no complaints. If the movie title is followed by VO, it is to be shown in the original language with French sub titles, of course, if the original version includes any French, English subtitles are not put on the screen, so we were sort of lost for parts of the movie. Since we'd both read the book we still understood. Anyhow, good picture. Note all the names of French soldiers along the interior wall of the Arc. The ones underlined were killed in battle. Can you imagine the swastika hanging in place of that flag during Germany's occupation of Paris? Kinda sad, eh?
